After a very dry year, and historically high lamb and sheep slaughter as a proportion of the total flock in 2012 and 2013, most southern regions of Australia received solid falls in winter and spring, with Victoria, Tasmania, SA and WA reporting some of the best seasons in recent history.
In contrast, NSW and Queensland producers have done it tough, with the persistent dry conditions limiting production and marketing options in 2013. Given these effects on the sheep industry structure and sentiment, it is vital that recent decisions and producer intentions to generate better forward looking information be captured. Furthermore, with notable trends starting to appear in the survey results, the information gathered can be put to use in breeding and marketing decisions on-farm.
With this in mind, MLA and AWI again ask for your time and considered responses to this survey. The more people that respond will obviously provide more reliable estimates.
Your responses will be aggregated with the replies from other participants to create regional, state and national sheepmeat and wool industry data. Individual responses remain strictly confidential.
Responses should be completed by 28 February 2014. Responses received by this date will be entered into the draw* for the chance to win a Caltex StarCash Card worth $1,000.
