2012-13 Carcase Competition
As it is now time to start thinking about selling your prime lambs don’t forget the WAMMCO State Prime Lamb Carcase Competition is on again this year.
Entries for this year’s competition opened on Monday, September 3 and will run through until Thursday, February 28, 2013.
The competition is open to all consignments of 100 or more crossbred lambs born in 2012 and multiple entries are permitted and encouraged. To ensure the competition continues and to keep up with current trends, WAMMCO has made some slight adjustments to this year’s competition.
Competition co-ordinator Rob Davidson said it decided to make the changes to better reflect today’s international lamb market. “As a result we have developed a new grid for the competition this year to reflect this,” he said. “Where in the past premium points for the overall category were for fat score 2 carcases weighing 24.1 to 27kg, this year it will be fat score 2 carcases weighing 22.1 to 24kg.”
In addition to last year’s three categories heavyweight, tradeweight and 300 plus consignment there will be a new section for the traditional first cross lamb. Mr Davidson said this traditional first cross lamb category will be for lambs born and reared by a pure Merino ewe. The entry fee for this year’s competition is again $50 and this can be deducted from growers’ account sales.
