A 2025 Spring Update From The Chief Executive
WAMMCO is now entering the 2025 spring period with lamb and mutton procurement prices at record levels. This has provided a significant windfall for producers and highlights the cyclical nature of the industry we all operate in. As I have mentioned in recent media interviews, the current pricing situation is being driven by a tight supply of lamb and mutton. However, there is still a noticeable disconnect between the high procurement prices and the international market returns currently available.
That said, even with the expected increase in spring livestock supply, I believe we will continue to see record prices through spring. While a moderate price correction is necessary from current levels, we do not anticipate a dramatic drop. Producers should maintain strong confidence in the long-term outlook, as global demand for lamb and mutton continues to outpace supply.
Project work continues to be a major focus for us. I am pleased to share that, during the recent plant shutdown, we completed a number of critical maintenance and infrastructure upgrades at the Katanning site. Our new lamb and mutton processing line is progressing well, and we remain on track to have it operational by November. This will be a significant step forward in improving processing efficiency and capacity.
I would like to wish all our producer members a successful 2025/26 season, and I look forward to catching up with many of you at our 2025 AGM in Borden on Thursday, 16th October 2025.
Thank you for your continued support of the cooperative.
