December provides the opportunity to reflect on what has been and then look forward to what lies ahead in our great industry. WAMMCO Katanning has made some great strides in the past 12 months. Our new BlueTrace RFID technology has been a very successful project and has streamlined the process in the Lairage, the addition of a new high tech shoulder puller over the winter shutdown hasn’t missed a beat which helps improve overall processing efficiencies. The new water recycling system is starting to produce good results with better to come – these are just a few of the plant improvements that have been implemented in the past 12 months.

Our WAMMCO team continues to perform extraordinarily well, and I am very proud of the entire team that come to work each day focused on making WAMMCO and its ovine products the best in Australia. You only need to listen to our international customers to know that this statement has validity.

Looking forward WAMMCO has a great 2026 to focus on. There will continue to be further plant improvements centered around the new lamb processing project. Our new CFO Troy Keenan is working hard on streamlining some of our finance and business processes. The IT department is focused on the total company implementation of a new Emydex IT system which is a modular software platform specifically designed for managing data in food processing companies. Our livestock team are working hard to ensure all producers are looked after fairly with processing space, and our marketing team is pushing hard to get the best revenue possible for our international ovine supply. Given livestock prices are very high this season customers are certainly feeling the pressure of very high retail pricing for lamb, and we all must remain cognitive of this going forward. However, we are going to see strong livestock procurement prices for lamb and mutton for the foreseeable future which will be music to all producers’ ears.
