Summer Livestock Update

Posted on January 12, 2026

Spring has delivered very strong prices and an excellent pasture season for livestock producers, resulting in lambs processed during this period being of very high quality, with above-average weights and fat scores. These favourable conditions have injected much-needed confidence and capital into the sheep and lamb industry, with improved returns strengthening sentiment across the sector.

The balance between sheep numbers and processor capacity is well aligned, giving growers confidence that WA-based processors can comfortably handle available numbers. A strong feedlotting sector further supports producers, and the upcoming addition of the new chain at WAMMCO will enhance processing capacity even further.

Looking ahead, all January–June 2026 bookings have now been issued to producers and agents. If you have not yet received your booking details, please contact the WAMMCO livestock team.

From the livestock team — Sean, Liam, Alison and myself — we thank all members and supporting agents for their continued loyal support of the Co-operative. This strong partnership remains a key strength as we work together into the future.

We wish everyone a safe and successful harvest, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and we look forward to working with you again in 2026

Best regards,

Mike Curnick
