All You Need to Know: Mandatory eID Tagging
Mandatory Sheep eID Requirements from 1 July 2026
As we approach the final stage of Western Australia’s electronic identification (eID) rollout, we want to remind all members of their legal obligations to ensure seamless processing at Katanning.
What is changing?
Starting 1st July 2026, Western Australia enters full eID operation.
Visual ear tags will no longer be legally permitted for stock movement.
Every single lamb, hogget, mutton, or ram departing your property must be fitted with an accredited NLIS eID tag.
Your Action Checklist Before Transporting Livestock:
- All lambs born from 2025 onward should already be fitted with a year of birth coloured eID tag.
- Any older livestock (born before 1 January 2025) must be retrofitted with an eID tag before they leave your farm.
Use the Correct Tag:
- For older stock born on your property, use a Yellow eID tag.
- For older stock introduced from another property, use a Pink post-breeder eID tag.
Remember only ONE eID per animal: Double-check that animals do not end up with two electronic tags.
Please Note: To maintain strict biosecurity compliance and export integrity, our facility cannot accept or process untagged or visually tagged stock after 30 June 2026.
For technical questions regarding tags, visit the DPIRD Electronic Identification Hub or contact a member of the WAMMCO Livestock team.
